Ambassador Highest honor awarded by the United States Junior Chamber.
Anniversary Dues Dues owed each year by an individual member on his/her anniversary month.
Annual Minnesota Jaycees Annual Convention, held in January. This is the year end convention for the previous year
Annual Meeting Also known as National Convention, this is the annual business meeting of the United States Junior Chamber held in September. It is at this convention that the President and Vice Presidents of the United States Junior Chamber are elected, and bylaws and policies are changed and adopted.
Areas of Opportunity Categories that Jaycees activities are broken down into. They are Business, Community, Individual, and International. Formerly called Pinnacles.
Armbruster Resume and interview competition for Jaycees who have been a member for more than one year
Bid An offer to hold a state or regional event/meeting.
Blue Chip A chapter planning, evaluation, and reporting tool utilizing members and community input. Completing the Blue Chip requirements is considered the minimum a chapter must do to be effective.
Board of Directors The governing body of an organization that is charged with conducting the business of the organization in accordance with its constitution and bylaws. Usually composed of elected and/or appointed officers.
Brownfield Resume and interview competition for Jaycees with over 1 year of experience
By-laws Rules and regulations an organization adopts to determine its government and procedures.
CDVP Community Development Vice President
Chairperson A person charged with the responsibility of the planning and execution of a project. The chairperson reports to the supervising Vice President, the Board of Directors, and the Membership.
COB Chairman Of the Board. Also known as the Immediate Past President.
Community Development The programs of a chapter through which an individual member is given the opportunity to apply learned leadership and management skills to impact the local community. The CDVP is in charge of this area.
CPG Chairman’s Planning Guide- A planning and evaluation tool used to effectively run Jaycees projects.
DD District Director, a state officer who works directly with Chapter presidents of a particular district
Debate ID team debate competition held at local, regional, and state meetings
Degrees of Jaycees A program designed to help individual members receive the benefits of their membership; a Junior Chamber career path. The program consists of ten degrees divided into three phases.
District A group of chapters located within a region. Region 8 has 2 Districts. Shakopee is in District 2.
Executive Committee The state officers of the Minnesota Jaycees consisting of the President, Vice Presidents, Chairman of the Board, and Regional Directors.
Exhausted Rooster A title bestowed on a Jaycee upon reaching the age of 40.
Extension The organization of a new Jaycee chapter. Also known as an affiliation.
First Timers A program for members attending their first state convention.
Gopher Bi-monthly publication of the Minnesota Jaycees, distributed to all members.
IDVP Individual Development Vice President
Individual Development The self-improvement programs of a chapter, aimed at teaching, developing, and increasing the individual member’s personal skills. The IDVP is in charge of this area.
JAM Just a Member.
Jaycee Creed A statement of philosophy and beliefs adopted by the United States Junior Chamber and Junior Chamber International. The Creed was written by C. William Brownfield.
Jaycee Family Week Thanksgiving Week is recognized annually by Jaycees members as a time to emphasize the importance of the family unit. Chapters use this week to recognize outstanding families, encourage communications in the home, and involve their families in chapter activities.
Jaycee Week Beginning the third Sunday of January, the week marks the anniversary of the founding of the United States Junior Chamber in 1920. Chapters use this week to tell their communities of their accomplishments. Often a banquet is held during Jaycee Week to honor recipients of the Distinguished Service Award and employers of Jaycees.
Jaycee Jeopardy ID Jaycee knowledge competition held at local, regional, and state meetings
Junior Chamber International Junior Chamber International, the worldwide Jaycees organization operating in more than 120 countries and territories. Also called JCI.
JCI Senator Highest award presented by the Jaycees International
JOTS Junior Officer Training Seminar
Keys Award given at Annual Convention to the top chapter presidents, state delegates, district directors, regional directors, program managers, and state vice presidents.
Leadership Training A process by which the individual develops greater self-confidence, motivation, the ability of self-expression, and other traits of leadership
Life Line Signing a minimum of 15 new members into a chapter in one month after they have been put on probation (membership fallen under 20) or to get the chapter over 30 members.
LOTS Local Officer Training Seminar, a training program offered by the state organization for local officers.

Membership Incentives Membership recruitment awards for members.
Mungenast Resume and interview competition for a Jaycee family
New Member Orientation The ongoing function of educating members about the Jaycee organization, its benefits, and member opportunities.
Newsletter A publication of the chapter used to keep its members informed of Jaycee news and meeting information. Shakopee’s newsletter is called the Shakopee Chieftain and is published bi-weekly.
ONTO Slogan used in promoting attendance at national conventions
OYF Outstanding Young Farmer- A Jaycees recognition program for Farmers
Parade of Chapters Competition among chapters within a state, in which points are earned and an overall chapter ranking is established.
Parliamentarian A person who advises a chairman or presiding officer about matters relating to parliamentary procedure.
Plan of Action The goals and plan for achievement of the chapter, developed each year by officers and members.
PM Minnesota Jaycees Program Manager oversees a state program.
Presidential Medallion Highest award presented by the President of the Minnesota Jaycees
PRVP Public Relations Vice President
Public Relations Chapter area that includes promotion, marketing, advertising, and publicizing the chapter The PRVP is in charge of this area.
RD Regional Director, a state officer who acts as an administrator of DDs.
Region The state is divided into geographic regions to provide local leadership and guidance to the chapters in that region. Shakopee is in Region 8.
Retention Re-signing members upon their anniversary
Road Run To visit another chapters project or meeting, or any district, regional, or state event.
Robert’s Rules of Order A guidebook to Parliamentary Procedure. These rules provide for the protection of the rights of the majority, the rights of the minority, the rights of the individuals and the rights of those absent, in conduct of meetings.
SAS Minnesota Jaycees Spring All-State Convention, held in May.
SD State Delegate, a liaison between the state and local organizations. A voting member of the board of directors of the state Jaycee organization
Senator The highest honor that can be bestowed upon a Jaycee. Awarded by Junior Chamber International. Less than 1 in every 5000 Jaycees receive this honor.
Speak-up ID speaking competition held at local, regional, and state meetings
Springboard An individual activation program to aid chapters in involving new members in chapter activities. A Springboard certificate is available for presentation to those members meeting the defined criteria.
State Meeting A meeting conducted by a state officer in accordance with the bylaws of the state organization. Statewide meetings are held on Sunday morning of conventions.
Statesman Highest award presented by the Minnesota Jaycees
TOYM Ten Outstanding Young Minnesotans, each year the Minnesota Jaycees honor ten dynamic individuals at an an awards congress. The winner then has a chance to go on to the United States Junior Chambers’ TOYA.
